It is my thoughts that the real Santas are in Uruguay serving on a mission. Today I got to see my Elder Matthew on the skype computer screen and it really did my heart good. He is so very happy and well that was truly my whole Christmas! George and I feel so blessed to have a missionary out and serving the Lord. This is Christmas. I am blessed. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a great 2012!!!!

Niel turns 22 years old!!! He finally came home from college so we could celebrate his birthday. He is so busy at Weber with all of his activities. He helped Katie with her big group date for the high school Morp dance. We had the before and after activities here at the house and it was very fun. Earlier in the week Katie had her Springville Youth City Council activities helping see the kids cross main street safely. She was such a cute flag girl. This has been a busy week!!

While Elder Matthew says goodbye in his email to his missionary brother Elder Niel, he tells us he will be transferred and made a Senior Companion in his new area. His companion is his buddy from the Argentina MTC so he is very excited. Elder Niel sadly is saying goodbye this week as his 2 years are over and home he comes. We are all excited to see this young man after 2 long years. I have obediently not mentioned much about his life after the mission as per his request so he can endure full blast to the end. I have not counted down these precious missionary days of spiritual progress and growing into manhood. I could never do that, but oh is it good to have them back home!!! I can not wait for this week to go by for my hug from a Paraguay missionary. Welcome home Elder Niel!

Heber Valley Girls Camp

Katie had her last year at the Heber Valley Springville Stake Young Women's Camp. It was a great week. Katie was a 2nd year Youth Camp Leader and fulfilled her responsibilities beautifully. I of course had a good time directing the Stake Adult Leaders skit and giving the Women of Destiny lessons to the girls. It was wonderful for me to be with Katie at her last year of Girl's Camp.

Elder Niel Burnett has sent home his Zone Leader Companion Elder Skinner and welcomes his new Zone Leader trainee Elder Gomez. They are still in Pilar and Niel will finish up his mission in this area. He his having a great time and will not tolerate any talk of life after his mission. He wants to stay for 15 more months doing the Lord's work, but I do not think that is possible. He has truly enjoyed his mission in Paraguay.

Elders Matthew and Niel are working very hard as missionaries. It was great to talk to them both on Mother's Day. They are busy wearing white as they spend their days filling the font.

Elder Niel comes home July 29th and Matthew has been out six months. We are blessed to hear about their experiences as Ambassadors of the Lord. I love it!! I can hardly wait for Mondays when I get to read their emails. This is a great time of their lives.

Art Ball

This year we attended the Art Ball at the Springville Art Museum. Katie girl was one of 12 finalists for the Art Royalty. There were 72 applicants and she made the top 12. We were so proud of her. She was so graceful and elegant as she walked down the finalist ramp. The girl has always been royalty. She is so beautiful and lovely. We supported her during this special time. George came home early as he and Ben rented tuxedos and Michelle, Katie, and I dressed up fancy for the night. The week before Katie had her interview and talent presentation at a Mother's Tea. I was thrilled for her mature manner in how Katie handled herself as she left her comfort zone. The Art Ball was a fun night for us as a family. How often do you get to dance the night away and get all dressed up?

Katie's big performance of Evening of Dance "Cinemagic" was held on the BYU DeJong Concert Hall on May 6th and 7th. I was the backstage manager and organizer. Katie was in two numbers about Charlie Chaplin and the Holocaust. The dancers spend the whole school year preparing for this one incredible weekend of performances. I am always amazed at how beautiful Katie's grace and movements can inspire me as I get to watch every night in the backstage wings. I love being a part of this important time of her life. I am blessed to be her mother.

Isaac Graduates from BYU-ID

Isaac finally did it!! He is a big college graduate from BYU-ID. He got his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. We drove up to cold Rexburg for the big event. We are proud of our precious independent son. This was a very big moment in his life and we are grateful to share in his joy and accomplishment. We love Isaac!!!

Isaac is home from Europe!!!

Isaac got home last night from the Salt Lake airport at midnight from his month long backpacking trip with his buddy Peluchee. He was tired from jet lag, but anxious to get on to Rexburg to finish his last semester of college for graduation in April and begin his internship. He had some great stories to tell about their experiences and even fell asleep mid sentence on the way home. I am so grateful he is back in the United States. This was a trip that he will never forget.

Elder Matthew's 1st day in Uruguay

We finally heard from Elder Matthew. It has been over a week since he left the Argentina MTC, but he sounds great and seems to be loving it. His companion is from Mexico and does not speak any English. I sure am glad we played a lot of charades and pantomimes growing up in our family. I think Matthew will be using that for a while. He is happy and loving the adventure. The couple in the picture with him is the Argentina MTC mission president and his wife, Pres. and Sister George. This was his last day in the MTC before he flew off to Uruguay. I am thinking he liked his first day in the mission field. What do you think?

We just received an incredible email from the secretary of the Argentina MTC with photos from all the missionaries and the things they did for Christmas. I just cried with tears of joy as I looked at these photos. We found Matthew in four of the photos, so I am posting them here. What a great way to spend the true meaning of Christmas. I know this was a real life time memory for our missionary son to be a part of this experience during Christmas.

We just received a letter from Elder Matthew's mission president and pictures of his whole group that left the MTC together, one picture of Matthew and the mission president and his wife, and the last picture was of Matthew and his new companion. It was a great, encouraging letter for a parent to read and to be sent to us so fast was very impressive. Elder Matthew looks great and we hope to hear from him soon to know his first area and more about his companion. I feel good knowing he is there and hopefully settled.

Christmas 2010

Christmas Day is here and it truly revolves around the little ones. They have so much joy and pure love with the excitement of the Christmas Day. We had Santa come and surprise us when Papa Jorge was out on an errand (wink wink). I am grateful for our family and good friends who love and care for us. The highlight of the day was hearing from Elder Niel in Paraguay on Skype and a phone call from Isaac in Egypt. Our prayers are with Elder Matthew in Argentina packing up his suitcase as he heads to Uruguay on Tuesday. He will email his last email on Monday before he leaves. I hope he gets everything in his suitcase. Merry Christmas to everyone reading this!!

Today was Sunday visiting day. George and I drove to SLC to pick up Katie from her double date with Ben and Michelle and then to visit my sweet niece Emily. She is recouping from her minor hip surgery and doing well. She is such a beautiful girl. We love her. After wards, we went back to Ben and Michelle's for dinner with their international neighbor and had so much fun visiting. It was a good family day and we are ready for the new week. I love this time of year.

KateLyn's Mexican Rivera Cruise

KateLyn was hired to be a mother's helper for her aunt and uncle on a Mexican Rivera Cruise during Thanksgiving time. She had a lot of fun and really loves her little cousins. With two missionaries in Spanish Speaking countries, KateLyn stopping at three Mexican ports and hearing and seeing the Spanish culture, and us at home hosting guests from Bolivia and Mexico, it was a true Spanish speaking holiday. Ben, Michelle, Isaac, my nephew Jake all spoke Spanish to our guests. I did a bit of pantomime and charades, but there were plenty of translators. I am thinking I need to start learning Spanish. It was a great Thanksgiving Day!

Elder Niel in Paraguay is busy setting and attaining goals with his Zone and attending weddings for investigators. They must be married before they can commit to be baptized. Also here are the first pictures from Elder Matthew in the Argentina MTC. He is having a great time and has already been called on to give his first talk in Spanish without prior notice. He felt that it went pretty good. He seems pretty chipper and loves the life in South America. He called today to say they had a turkey dinner in the MTC cafeteria even though it is not a national holiday there, it was for the Americans. He thought that was pretty cool.

Today our firstborn son, 27 year old Benjamin was ordained a High Priest and put into the Bishopric of his ward. We left our ward's Primary Program that I helped lead the music and ran to his Salt Lake Ward to be with him and Michelle for this special day. We love his kind heart. He will be the best counselor to his Bishop. The night before the Burnett Gals met up for our semi annual BYU DanceSport competition. So fun!!!

Elder Matthew left for the Argentina M.T.C. yesterday on October 27 the day after he turned 19. He was excited, nervous, and happy. It was a tearful good bye for us, but he left with the confidence of a young man heading for some great adventures and memories. We will miss this great missionary and can not wait to hear about his experiences that will affect his life forever.

Katie, my worker buddy Sonia, my student worker Stacy and her fiancee Tyler joined me on the big Student Auxilary Services entry in the BYU Homecoming Parade. It was a bigger parade than I had thought. We had such a good time and Katie was chosen to carry the big football that the Chinese dragon was chasing. It was a crazy fun memory for me! Go Cougs!

Elder Niel is in training with his companion Elder Ariste. They will be together for only 2 more weeks. He is back in his first area and very excited to be back to familiar territory. Elder Niel was just called to be trained as a Zone Leader. He is with a 3 week companion during his training while the mission president creates the new zone. Then he will get his assignment and his Zone Leader companion. We are anxiously waiting details. He is excited but always sad to leave the people he has taught and watch grow in the gospel. Today is Brayden's 3rd Birthday and everyone was here to help us celebrate. Isaac and his friend Peluchie came home last night from their tour of the United States and arrived first. George and Matthew came home hours later very late from working in Bozeman after Matthew's summer session at BYU-ID in Rexburg. Ben and Michelle, Brayden and Jasmine came today after their church and we had a great time with the Birthday Boy. It was nice to have everyone together after a very long summer. Brayden sure enjoyed opening up all of his presents!

This week brought KateLyn's first day of her Junior Year in High School. I went to work late so I could bring out the blue plate special celebration breakfast and lots of pictures to send her off in style. She seems to have a good schedule, challenging but acceptable. This was a great week of seeing two of my wonderful friends Shauna and Melea. They are both friends from Bozeman and it is always fun to talk about good old times of the past. Shauna and I met up at Melea's son's wedding reception in Lehi. When I am with this great friends it feels like no time has passed. I love it.

Hike to Y Mountain

Well, for years I have wanted to make the hike up Y mountain. After a fun visit from dear friend, Kathy Little, she inspired me to finally make it happen since she hikes daily. Days after she left, Katie encouraged me to do it as a farewell to Summer and hello to the new school year. I had just received an A on one of my BYU class finals and was feeling pretty chipper. We did it!! I did it!! It was hard and rugged going on the long inclined switchbacks, but together we did it and I am a better person for it. So happy days for me.

The 24th of July parade in Vernal, UT was awesome. Our family helped George with two floats and then about 200 supporters of the "I Love Drilling" business showed up to walk behind the floats. Everyone wore George's T-shirts. It was crazy to see so many townspeople want to be a part of this celebration. I am sure George will get the award for most participants in one parade entry. It was a great memory for our family.

Matthew finally opened his mission call after waiting 5 days for family and friends to gather. He is going to Uruguay Montevideo Mission in October and heads straight to the Argentina Missionary Training Center to learn Spanish. Wow!! He will be about 400 miles from his brother in Paraguay and about 600 miles from his twin cousins in Brazil. This is crazy wild!!!

Saturday June 26th was the Eldon Nielsen Family Organization Festival with my brothers, sister and their children. It was fun to turn our hearts to the fathers as we learned of our forefathers and their family histories as we read their bios and walked to the different grave sites. We learned how they struggled in life and rose above their trials and strengthen their testimonies in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am so grateful to be a part of such a great legacy. It was a wonderful day to renew our family relationships and be together.

On Friday June 25th, George's sister Marta married Bruce Rigby in the Bountiful Temple. It was a beautiful day. I am so grateful for families and the joy that comes from righteous choices. Matthew was excited to be at the temple as his mission call is arriving this week and he soon will be going through one of these holy temples as he prepares to serve his full time mission. Today is Father's Day. We honored George with a nice dinner celebration and gifts. We love the dad in our family. Last night he came home early from Vernal and took Katie and me to the Manti Pageant. It was a late night, but a great experience to see that inspirational performance of the Mormon Miracle.
This week was our Springville Stake dinner for the members who are 75 years and older. It was fun to see how many appreciated the pampering session. My niece Amy Blackburn did a wonderful job providing the music for this crowd of almost 200. I appreciated her willingness to play and sing for this group. This is such a big activity that we as a Stake RS Presidency pull off but I know a good time was had by all.

I love coming home from a hard day at work and see the flowers. It always gives me renewed hope to see such beauty. KateLyn planted two of her own flowers pots for the back patio. We hope to enjoy them all summer.

Birthday week!!

Oh happy day for me!! It was my birthday and Matthew and Katie were great at pampering me on my special day. Breakfast in bed and then taking me to dinner were on the list. I love that they are so good to me. On Sunday, Ben, Michelle, Brayden, Jasmine, and George were here for a nice Sunday afternoon birthday dinner and a time to visit. It was pretty shocking how many people face booked me on my birthday. I guess that is the value of face book. I am not on that much but it was fun to read all of the greetings from so many. I appreciate the pampering sessions from so many friends and my buddies at BYU. What a time for me! Thank you for all your wishes to me!!

National Honor Society

Tonight KateLyn was inducted into the High School National Honor Society. It was a formal ceremony for these newly invited students to be sworn in by an oath of honor. It was a cool event for her to be choosen for this experience. We sure are surprised by her wonderful accomplishments. She is our princess!

Paraguay adventures!

Happy Moher's Day to all of my dear friends! I was pampered today by my family and Katie and I just finished with the exhausting week of her BYU Evening of Dance Performance in the DeJong Concert hall. I was the back stage manager and got to watch her close up performing as I stood in the backstage wings. What joy as a mother to see her passion for dancing. We are tired but happy that is was a great success.
Today I got to hear my missionary Niel's voice from Paraguay. He still sounds happy and full of adventures in the life of a busy missionary. I hope you are all grateful like me to be a mom. It does my heart good to see our kids progress. Matthew just started his mission papers this week as he prepares for high school graduation and a semester of college. Isaac is reaching his goals in South Carolina selling Apx Security Systems. Ben, Michelle, Brayden & Jasmine are on their way home from seeing my nephew Parley graduate from college down in Las Vegas. I like my life!

George and I have been married 28 years today! I received a beautiful HUGE bouquet of 28 roses from my sweetheart to celebrate the day. Matthew gave me a single rose and breakfast. In the evening, Katie and her friend Amanda surprised me with a yummy plate of chocolate dipped strawberries, shrimp cocktail on a beautifully arranged plate with flowers and a fun song wishing us happy anniversary. They sang it later again for George. How sweet it is! Later Matthew left for Prom. What a night!!

Women's Conference 2010

KateLyn and I had a great time at the BYU Women's Conference and listened to great speakers. We were able to hear my dear friend Roseann M. Croshaw and her twin sister Rosemary M. Wixom in their own individual presentations. What a wonderful day. It was a joy to meet the mom of these two great women. It was awesome to have my sweet daughter with me at this special conference.

Elder Niel is transferred to the big city!!

Elder Niel was transferred on his last change to the big city. He has been out 9 months now and was sad to leave his last companion and area, but is already to tackle new adventures. He has another native companion from Ecuador and thinks he is getting a new bike. I do not think so son!!!

Elder Niel sent these pictures today of his experiences at General Conference with guests. He said that for Easter the people eat "cheepa". It is a bread but made with ground corn and cheese. They were given about 30 pieces of cheepa by people. I hope he sends a recipe.

The kids decided to have a joint date night since they were all together for the Easter/Conference weekend. Since Katie is now in the dating scene, the kids wanted to have a memory together dying Easter eggs and a movie while Grandpa and Grandma stayed out of the way watching the cute grand kids. Everyone had fun! I enjoyed another great conference weekend and the renewal that I always feel after hearing great words to help me better myself. I feel ready to face the rest of the next six months until conference can come again.

Miss Joan was in town from China and so we had another one of our great get togethers. Can you see why it is wonderful to have such great friends even though three of us are not at Art City Elementary anymore. We still love having good friendships and enjoy our time to be together even though it is hard with so many busy lives. I love these gals!!!

George's Birthday weekend celebration

George was in Vernal working on his exact birthday on the 10th, so I had a big balloon bouquet delivered with a Glen Beck CD and then we celebrated it when he came home on he weekend. After church (George gave the lesson in High Priests with all the Stake visiting since it was our Ward Conference & I did my Stake assignment in Relief Society), we rushed to Ben & Michelle's ward in SLC to hear their talks in their ward and watched the grandkids in the audience. After their church, we had George's birthday dinner and had a great time together. Before George came home, I had been host to my student worker Desiree and her Spanish speaking only mother from Mexico. What a great adventure to have them both stay with us and help out with Desiree's solo concert piano recital at BYU. It was quite a time. I loved playing charades with Sayda when Desiree wasn't around to translate. I think I picked up a few Spanish words myself. During all of this excitement Matthew went to preference and Katie and I made it to our semi annual adventure of BYU DanceSport. What a world wind weekend!!! Pictures say it all!

Elder Niel sent away his great companion Elder Villasiaz sadly but welcomed Elder Guitarra from Ecuador. This is his 4th native companion from different countries. He sure is making a lot of great friends. He is sharing a scripture at ward night, trying on his new shoes and getting to know his new companion. Elder Niel is always so upbeat in his letters. He was very happy to stay in this cool ward another transfer. He keeps asking for receipes for the ladies in the ward who want to learn to make American dishes for the elders. He loves it!

Give a Day, Get a Day at Disneyland!!

We finally did it!!! We volunteered our time at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and earned our ticket to Disneyland!! I finally got the kids to Disneyland!! Thanks to my niece Emily, we did it. Matthew, Katie, Emily and I had the best time ever!!!! Staying with Parley, Lindsay, and little Owen was a highlight since Tom and Melani were there visiting too! It was a dream come true for me and the kids.

Matthew helped his good friend Kelly Bird run for Mr. Springville at the high school. His buddies Nick and Austin helped do the treadmill dance. It was very clever. Check it out on the site here. George drove in from Vernal just in time to film the dance. It took a lot of coordination to pull this off but it was a success. Katie and I met Rebecca Farnsworth and her grandson Jackson for the festivities. It was a fun night. Good work Matthew!!!

Can you see what I did this weekend?!! I just love watching Brayden entertain us. He is so funny. He made good cookies too! I loved holding sweet Jasmine. Isn't it adorable how she looks up at her Grandma? Ben and Michelle invited us back over for Sunday dinner. We had such a nice time visiting. Oh the joys of early morning church block and having the rest of the day to spend with family.

He said it was very scary balancing on two boards 15 feet in the air which was the platform while carrying a heavy bucket of cement mix. Oh boy! I continue to pray for his safety. Isaac came home from BYU-Idaho this weekend and brought a guest. His friend Peluche came and met us. Peluche and Isaac went to Peru on a wild trip with great adventures during the Christmas break. We had fun getting to know him and visiting with Ben, Michelle, Brayden and sweet little Jasmine for Sunday dinner. It was a nice day with family.
